Report faulty traffic lights in Ekurhuleni to AfriForum here
AfriForum is appealing to residents on the East Rand to report traffic lights in this metro that are not working on the organisation’s new survey. This survey aims to determine the severity of traffic lights that are faulty or out of order and consequently report it to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality for urgent intervention. The survey follows after AfriForum reported several dysfunctional traffic lights to the Metro on 30 September but received no feedback.
Some of the intersections where traffic lights are faulty or not working flow onto main routes leading to the N17, R21, Pretoria and the O.R. Tambo International Airport. These traffic lights are mainly located on Great North Road in Benoni where it intersects with High Road, Stanley Road, West Street and Deodar Street. However, the problem is not isolated and extends across the entire Ekurhuleni Metro.
In addition, intersections with dysfunctional traffic lights pose a safety risk to road users. Apart from an increase in vehicle accidents, these intersections are also hotspots for crime. On 23 October, there was an accident between three vehicles where Great North Road intersects with High Road due to malfunctioning traffic lights. This is one of the intersections that AfriForum previously reported to the Ekurhuleni Metro and still hasn’t been repaired.
AfriForum encourages Ekurhuleni residents to participate in the survey. The organisation will process the data and take further action accordingly to apply pressure on the Metro and the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport. The last day to participate in the survey is 30 November.
