The Jungle Book swings into Pretoria!
After a wildly successful debut season in Johannesburg this year, VR Theatrical’s The Jungle Book will be making its way to Pretoria’s favourite theatre early next year. This fun and imaginative stage adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s timeless tale will be on the AfriForum Theatre stage from 25 March to 5 April 2026.
Audiences can expect a fully immersive theatrical experience that begins the moment they step into the venue. With a creative, urban-inspired set and costume design, dynamic choreography, and a pulsing original score, this production delivers a fresh, contemporary reimagining of Kipling’s much-loved tale.
Adapted and directed by Daniel Butcher-Geddes, with an original score by Wessel Odendaal, The Jungle Book embraces a strikingly modern aesthetic – gritty, stylised and refreshingly original – while remaining faithful to the story’s heart. This 75-minute, family-friendly production follows Mowgli’s (played by Noluthando Mathebula) journey of self-discovery, friendship and courage, featuring beloved characters like Bagheera (played by Siyamthanda Makakane), Baloo (played by Grant Towers) and the fearsome Shere Khan (played by Brett De Groot).
Other cast members include Jordyn Schaefer as Kaa and John Tsenoli as Akela and King Louis.
With its high production values, inventive storytelling and emotional depth, The Jungle Book promises an unforgettable adventure for audiences aged five and up. It is a must-see for families looking to experience this classic story in a bold new way.
“It is always a privilege for AfriForum Theatre to welcome quality productions to our stage. The Jungle Book is one of a kind: a well-known story presented in a fresh way, offering a new perspective on this beloved tale. We look forward to seeing audiences swept away by the beautiful set, outstanding characters and original new music,” says Marné Jooste, Marketing and Communications Officer for AfriForum Theatre.
